SFS prequalification for New York nonprofits

A nonprofit has to be prequalified in New York's Statewide Financial System (SFS) before it applies for a State grant: a proposal from an organization that isn't prequalified by the due date is not evaluated. It takes weeks, and many organizations find out too late. We collect your documents and file the prequalification with you.

What prequalification asks for.

  • Certificate of incorporation (or the equivalent), and a DBA certificate if you use another name
  • IRS 501(c) determination letter
  • Your latest IRS Form 990, and your audit or review with any findings
  • Your Charities Bureau filing (CHAR500 or CHAR410)
  • A profile of your board of directors, and resumes of your senior leadership
  • Your bylaws and an organization chart

It isn't one-and-done.

Your Form 990, your financial statement and your Charities Bureau filing expire every year. The State asks for current versions and an updated application each year, so a prequalified organization stays prequalified.

How we help.

  1. We check where you stand: registered in SFS or not, and what your status says today.
  2. We tell you exactly which documents are missing, and help you get them.
  3. We file the prequalification with you and follow it until it is approved.
  4. We keep it current: the yearly updates, before a grant deadline catches you.
